Are you fasting?

Assalamualaikum warahmatullah wabarakatuh,

I don't think I need to tell you how to fast and what is going to break your fast. This can be found in any Islamic website or book. Fasting is not just to feel the hunger, thirst and lock the desire for sexual intercourse, it is also to prevent any part of our body to do any forbidden/dislike act like lying, backbitting, slandering, fighting, gazing at forbidden scenes, listening to useless song/speech, being suspicious, having bad thought of others, wasting time idling, etc. This is evidenced through the saying of the Prophet Muhammad (saw):

“[Concerning] one who does not leave false speech and acting on it, ALLAH has no need that he leaves his food and drink.” (Muslim)

“[Real] fasting is not abandoning food and drink. Rather [real] fasting is abandoning indecency and lewdness.” (Dawud)

Two women fasted [voluntary] during the time of the Prophet (saw). They almost died of thirst they fasted so much. This was mentioned to the Prophet (saw) and he (saw) turned away. Their fast was again mentioned to him (saw). He (saw) then summoned the two of them and ordered them to force themselves to vomit. They vomitted a bucketful of blood, pus, and raw meat. The Prophet (saw) said: “These two women fasted by leaving what ALLAH made lawful [food] for them, then they broke their fast by engaging in that which HE has forbidden. They sat with each other and proceeded to eat the flesh of people [by backbiting them](Ahmad)

One of the righteous forebears mentioned: “The easiest fast is leaving off food and drink.” Jabir (ra) said: “When you fast, let your hearing, sight, and tongue refrain from lying and the unlawful. Leave off abusing your neighbour. Be reverent in your comportment and calm on the day you are fasting. Do not behave when you are fasting as you behave when you are not.”

It is notably that doing unlawful acts doesn't break the fast but it ruins the fast. So, I pray that we are all fasting the way that we are supposed to. And may ALLAH accept our fast.

ALLAHU'alam.
Wassalam
